Barbie Mariposa & the Fairy Princess

I am not a Barbie fan. There I said it. Just not. Nothing against it really just not thrilled. A lot of what Barbie stands for in my mind is just super girly all the time blah blah shopping blah blah. HOWEVER... I will be the first to admit that I was wrong. The new Barbie movie, Barbie Mariposa & the Fairy Princess is a great movie. It has a good lesson, the girls are smart, and its funny.

Sure it still is about fairies and butterflies and they both get a healthy dose of sparkles before going to the ball. I am not against the girly stuff. I am just against teaching my daughter that is all there is to being a little girl. Both Mariposa and the Princess love to read. They are both intelligent and strong. In the end they work together and are able to save Shimmervale.

They both have little furry flying pet friends. They speak in broken English and gibberish. They are hilarious. Just look at how animated they can be! I would highly recommend this movie to anyone that likes stories about strong girls or barbie or fairies or love or sparkles LOL

Hotel Transylvania

We saw this movie before Christmas and it was hilarious - even for the adults. There were lots of jokes and just overall all the supernatural characters were interesting. They all had their own quirks.

Hotel Transylvania is a resort and hotel for supernatural creatures, where they can relax and stay away from the scary humans. They enjoy all kinds of activities... like synchronized swimming... lol.

Until one day when a human stumbles upon the hotel... after meeting Dracula's daughter sparks fly. This is an incredibly cute movie. I highly recommend it :)

Rise of the Guardians

We went and saw this today and it was wonderful. It had a great story line of Jack Frost accepting who he was and of all the guardians protecting children.

There were many funny moments. The elves were hilarious. I have watched what feels like hundreds of Christmas movies and I have never seen elves depicted that way.

This little guy stole the show! The sandman can't talk, but he more than made up for it!

Sofia the First

A new Disney movie premiered tonight. Zoey has been waiting to see this movie for over a month. It was really cute. A single mother marries the King and her and her daughter Sofia move into the palace. Sofia struggles to get used to her new siblings, home, and life. Her new father gives her a special necklace and hi-jinks ensue. It was actually funny at times.

Stardust and Coraline

If you have never read a book by Neil Gaiman you should first go here. He is an amazing and talented author who writes everything from children's stories to books for the older crowd. One of my favorites is Stardust.

In Stardust, a young man name Tristran crosses over a wall and into a magical land to begin his journey of locating a fallen star. The book was eventually turned into a wonderful movie, that never got the praise it deserved. Star studded cast of Robert De Niro, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Claire Danes brought life to this movie, it was truly incredible and remains a favorite of mine.

While I love Gaiman for Stardust, Zoey loves him for Coraline. Coraline is another wonderful book and has won MANY awards. A spunky little girl with vibrant blue hair and a yellow rain coat, finds a hidden door and meets her "other mother". The book translated beautifully to screen. With another star studded cast of Dakota Fanning, Teri Hatcher, and Keith David the characters jump right off the screen. Many seem to think Coraline is a little scary, I would say it is more spooky. Zoey saw it for the first time last year when she was only three and has loved it ever since. So just use your own judgement.

Casper the Friendly Ghost

Casper has been around for AGES and there are soooo many different versions. Zoey started watching Casper last year around Halloween and fell in love, we watch it all year long. lol

Originally a cartoon from the 40's Casper has been adapted and changed many times.

Mulan

Disney's Facebook reminded me how much I love Mulan!

“My, what beautiful blossoms we have this year. But look, this one’s late. But I’ll bet that when it blooms, it will be the most beautiful of all.” - Fa Zhou from Mulan

And who doesn't love Mushu?!

The Lorax

Our current favorite is The Lorax.

My daughter and I went to see it while it was in theaters and she really liked it, so I bought it as soon as I seen it in the store. We have watched it almost every other day for the past 2 weeks, lol. The songs are catchy without being annoying. This one in particular is our favorite :)
